Math 3 Updates
This week we will be learning about and practicing division. We learn about division as the opposite of multiplication. We've already been reading books about division and this week we will really be working to break apart large numbers into groups (modeling division).
*You can help at home by giving your learner dry cereal or other edible or non-edible manipulatives. Ask your learner to count out a specific number within 100 and then ask them to divide the group into equal groups. They can also write equations to support what they see. For example, ask them to count out 45 Cheerios. Ask them to divide them into 5 equal groups. You can do this by drawing circles on a sheet of paper. Next, ask your learner to sort the Cheerios. Have them write the supporting math equations. 5 X 9 = 45. 45 divided by 5 equals 9.

Third graders are right back and ready to learn! This week we are learning about multiples and the commutative property for multiplication and division. This is in preparation for division next week. This week we are also working to find the missing factor in multiplication. For example, 4 X ? = 12. The missing variable or factor is 3.
Third grade learners continue working on their animal adaptations project for expo night. In math they will create their habitat and work to determine how much it will cost to fund their project with their donation they received. Ask them about what they are creating in Science in regards to their animal adaptation.
Learners are working to understand the relationship between multiplication and division. We are also continuing practice with our 2-step word problems and working with variables.
Variables: www.mathsisfun.com/definitions/variable.html Happy Fall! Third graders practiced spooky math and worked with arrays (making array word problems and finishing their egg challenge design. There are great holiday math worksheets available online that help learners build skills. Some resources are listed below.

We are practicing multiplication facts and continue to build math fact fluency in addition and subtraction. You can help at home by allowing learners to group items like dry beans and crackers into groups.
