Math 3 Updates
The third graders resume Smarter Balanced Assessments this week. We have planned some activities around Graphing when testing is not in session. Students are learning about bar graphs and pictographs. Most importantly, we are learning about the importance of titling and labeling our x and y axis. With pictographs it's important to analyze the information to make sure we choose the correct Key representation. For example, One smiley face might actually equal 2 students based on the size of the pictograph and they key. We are beginning to gather information based when we read and interpret graphs.
Here is some more graphing practice if you would like to work with your learner at home. Graphing Activity for home

Third Graders will finish their measurement unit on mass - tons, kilograms, grams etc, We will continue measuring and estimating masses of objects using standard units of grams, kilograms and liters. We will also add, subtract, multiply, or divide to solve one-step word problems. We will use stopwatches to explore time more in-depth as well and then begin our bar graph and charts exploration. You can help at home by reviewing academic language about measurement and encouraging your learner to explore this math dictionary: http://www.amathsdictionaryforkids.com/dictionary.html.

We will also add, subtract, multiply, or divide to solve one-step word problems. You can help at home by reviewing academic language about measurement and encouraging your learner to explore this math dictionary: http://www.amathsdictionaryforkids.com/dictionary.html. Also, encourage your student to label their measurements when solving problems. For example, If solving a word problem about feet your learner should label the answer in feet. It is crucial to use a unit of measurement when we discuss this topic. Thank you for all you do to support your Nea Ninja!
