Math 3 Updates
When we return from break your 3rd grader will begin a new unit on Measurement. We will focus the first week on measuring time. We will practice reading clocks and calculating elapsed time. One method we use to model the passing of time is on number lines. We will use a 0 – 60 number line to relate what we know about fractions to the clock. You can help at home by asking your learner to explain what they are learning using academic language.

3rd grade will conclude their introductory unit on Fractions this week. We will also begin the next unit on Geometry. For the fraction assessment, learners will be expected to place a fraction on a blank number line. They know how to do this by looking at the denominator to determine how many equal spaces to include from 0 to 1 whole. Learners will also use a variety of pictorial models to model fractions. In the new Geometry unit, 3rd graders will identify polygons by the number of sides it contains. This video will help us identify differences in shapes. https://learnzillion.com/lesson_plans/6121-recognize-shape-attributes
3rd graders continue learning about fractions. We will explore fractions more with pattern blocks as well as practice solving word problems about fractions. Students will complete their fractions reference books.
