Math 3 Updates
Learners are continuing to explore quadrilaterals and elapsed time. We are practicing basic math skills like using academic language and identifying key words in multi-step problems. When we return from Spring Break learners will begin their interdisciplinary project and be making menus for their food truck project.

We are really delving into shape attributes. Learners should be able to sort shapes by their vertices, faces and sides. We are also beginning to discuss elapsed time. Lastly, we are discussing area and perimeter more in-depth with our learners.
Elapsed Time- Elapsed time is simply the amount of time that passes from the beginning of an event to its end. Some great questions for learners... What makes a shape a quadrilateral? What makes a polygon a polygon? What is the difference between parallel, perpendicular, and Intersecting lines? Third graders are practicing identifying shapes. We will begin finding area and perimeter of triangles this week and next.. The goal is able to be able to identify shapes by their different attributes. We will also begin exploring elapsed time.
Some new vocabulary to practice at home: congruent, parallel, line, line segment, perpendicular, right angle, abtuse angle, acute angle, attribute. Learners are developing their knowledge of Geometry. We have learned about vertices, lines and line segments. Learners are exploring 2D and 3D shapes. Most importantly they are learning shape attributes and how to partition shapes. Learners have been asked to look for examples of 2D and 3D shapes in everyday life.
