3rd Grade humanities
Learners will begin Writer's Workshop this week. Learners will review the structure and expectations of Writer's Workshop, and create class agreements. Learners will then create "heart maps" about people, places, and memories that are important to them, which they can refer back to for writing inspiration throughout the year.
Learners will reflect on how they can build their writing stamina and challenge themselves as writers. Learners will practice utilizing these strategies by writing for longer periods of time, and incorporating new vocabulary into their writing. Learners will have the opportunity to do "free writing" this week, in which they choose their topic and style of writing. We will begin our first social studies unit on native peoples of the Bay Area next week.

Welcome to the rotation! This week, learners will set up their humanities notebooks, and engage in goal setting and writing pre-assessments. Learners will reflect on their strengths and challenges in reading and writing, develop a plan to improve their work, and create at least two goals for the first trimester. Learners will revisit these goals at the end of Trimester 1 to check their progress and revise their goals and improvement plan.
Learners will craft short narrative, opinion, and informational writing pieces. Learners can utilize their strengths and challenges in these writing pieces for reference when developing their goals, and facilitators will use these assessments to inform their instruction in order to best support learners' needs and abilities. |
