SBA Testing will be starting this week (for real this time)! Please make sure your learner is getting plenty of rest and eats breakfast before coming to school.
On non-testing days, learners will continue working on their informational state brochures. Learners will utilize information from their state project backs and add more details in their brochure to highlight unique things about their state, and why their state is awesome and people should visit. Additionally, learners will engage in mini lessons on grammar. This week, we will focus on fragments, run-on sentences, and frequently confused words. SBA testing has been postponed for a week, so we will have a regular morning rotation schedule this week. Learners will move on to the informational writing piece for their state and country project this week! Learners will utilize the information about their states that they have built over the past few weeks to create an informational brochure that highlights key aspects about their state's demographics, government, economy, physical features, and attractions. We will use Google Docs, to create these brochures, and we will review formatting tools on this platform to help learners organize their information and have a polished final product. .
Additionally, learners will engage in daily grammar mini lessons. This week, we will focus on end punctuation, capitalization, commas, fragments/run-on sentences, and subject-verb agreement. These lessons will be integrated with their writing, and each day learners will focus on revising a specific aspect of their writing. SBA testing is here! First off, please ensure that your learner is getting plenty of rest and comes to school filled with delicious breakfast! Also, if you have not already sent headphones to school, please do so on Monday. Learners have been working hard to prepare and we know they will do wonderfully!
During off-days, we will also be continuing our country and state report. This week, we will focus on various landmarks and memorials throughout the United States; with an emphasis on those in California. Finally, we have the mayor of Alameda coming to speak to our third grade! This will be a great opportunity to connect with someone who has a prominent role in local city government. Welcome back from break! This week, learners will dive into their government project. Learners will utilize their understanding of the structure and function of U.S. national, state, and local governments, as well as informational writing skills, to develop their own states and countries. Focusing on their states this week, learners will decide their state's name, leader, and capitol, and design a flag. Additionally, learners will identify other important cities, physical features, and demographics of their state.
Learners will wrap up the week by creating laws for their state, and highlighting unique features that demonstrate why their state is so great! |
