This week, learners will begin their State and Country project! This will be a great opportunity for learners to use their creativity to create a state. of their choice. Learners will utilize their knowledge of the structures of government and reasons for laws to build their own state's government. Additionally, learners will develop state landmarks, jobs, crops and unique features/attractions that align with their state's theme. Learners will complete a graphic organizer with each of these sections, and eventually will develop a brochure for their state using Google Docs.
This week, third graders will continue to learn about our United States government.. They'll watch short videos about the three branches of government, how a bill is created, and what are checks and balances. We will be connecting this system with Nea's educational system and learn their similarities/differences. Learners will eventually make their own bill and propose it to Ms. Jana or Ms. Annalisa!
In addition to this unit, we will begin taking practice tests on laptops in order to prepare for state testing in April. This will give learners a good opportunity to see the format of the testing screen, how to log in/out, and do various practice tests related to reading and writing. During this time, we will begin talking about test taking strategies, time management, and how to stay relaxed. Please begin to talk to your children about these important strategies. Third grade learners will begin a new unit in Social Studies this week! Over the next couple of weeks, they will learn more about The United States government. We'll begin the week by discussing the purpose of rules and the importance of following them at home, school, and in our society. They'll be learning about the US Constitution and why it was created. Looking at the Preamble, watching videos about the US Constitution, and learning the meaning of new vocabulary will give learners a better understanding of the reason the US created this important document.
