This week, the third graders will continue with their poetry unit. They will be writing color alliterations and create a a cute, rainbow craft to display their sentences. Next, learners will brainstorm nouns and verbs to inspire them to write personification poems that relate to flowers. For their final drafts, they will create a flower craft to present all of their personification sentences. Finally, third graders will choose a topic and write pyramid poems. This will be a great review of syllables and learners will be challenged to think of sentences using one, two, three, four, and five syllables. Be sure to visit the classroom in the next few weeks so that you can see all of their poems displayed throughout the classroom.
This week, the third graders will begin a poetry unit. We'll have an introduction to poetry and learners will watch a video clip, brainstorm times that they have read or written poetry, and read a poem and answer questions about its' style and what it makes them think about. They'ill be reading many examples of rhyming and alliteration poetry and then learners will create their own poems. This will be a fun and creative way for them to express themselves using rhyme and word play. We'll be integrating art and learners will make a watermelon and rainbow craft to display their poems.
This week, learners will finish typing their memoirs and share their writing with classmates. They will begin recording their voices to create a podcast for others to listen to as well. In conjunction with our Kindness Challenge, learners will write thank you letters to a special person in their lives.
We will also continue our Social Studies unit on Alameda's history. Learners will compare and contrast maps and photographs of how Alameda has changed over time. |
