3rd Grade humanities
This will be the last full week of seminar rotations. Learners will have their final humanities period on Monday, June 5th. This week, learners will complete final edits and revisions to their restaurant persuasive writing pieces and menus, in preparation for sharing their restaurant project with 5th grade learners. We will set up our "3rd Grade Restaurant" and older learners will visit 3rd grade learners' restaurants, listen to their persuasive pieces, and order from their menus. 3rd grade learners will practice calculating the bill and change for their restaurant guests.
Learners will also consider what humanities writing pieces and accomplishments they are most proud of and complete a reflection sheet in preparation for LLCs. We will continue reading The Lemonade War as a class. Learners will engage in verbal discussion and respond in writing to comprehension questions.

This week, learners will continue to develop their restaurant persuasive writing pieces as they begin the final draft of their writing on Google Docs. Learners will utilize their written draft and brainstorm to further strengthen the ideas and content of their writing, as they also focus on the organization. Learners are excited to present all the pieces of their restaurant project to you soon at LLCs!
We will continue to read The Lemonade War as a class. Learners will reflect on what we are reading through class discussions and written responses. This week, learners will continue writing their persuasive essays for the restaurant project. Learners will revise their first draft writing in the graphic organizer and write their second draft in paragraph form. We will focus on grouping similar information together, using transitional words, and expanding their writing by adding details and examples that support their reasons.
We will continue reading The Lemonade War as a class. Learners will explore the characters' development of their businesses, discuss key terms used in business, and respond to reading comprehension questions to deepen their understanding of the text. Third graders will continue to add to their graphic organizers to plan their persuasive restaurant essay. They will use their five senses to describe their restaurant, what makes it special, and reasons why someone should visit. They are really using so many creative components to make this project come alive. It's making us all hungry as they work to complete this project!
They will continue reading The Lemonade War this week as well. While we read we will focus on the characters, setting, plot, and the problems and solutions that the characters overcome and create. |
