Fourth graders begin their Trimester 2 project using Sketchup. Here they are creating a California or Native American Dwelling using area and perimeter. We begin with a rough draft on paper and use the program "Sketchup" to virtually create our 2D structure. For extra credit learners can also make a 3-D model using the program. We are looking forward to showcasing our hard work on expo night.
Learners complete their division assessment and discuss area and perimeter in preparation for their Trimester 2 project.
Learners continue to explore division using the standard algorithm and partial quotient method.
Learners are continuing exploration of division. We are focusing on our partial quotient strategy which is a common core strategy that is much easier than how we learned as children. Please encourage your learner to practice, check work and ask themselves the question: Does my answer make sense? These are all strategies of strong learners.
Learners are practicing the standard algorithm for division along with the partial quotients method. Many adults learned division this way. Steps: divide, multiply, subtract, check, bring down. Common core methods tend to make more sense to learners but it's important they practice both methods for long division. We also continue to review partial product multiplication and mastery of multiplication facts.
You can help at home by making flash cards for multiplication facts of 6, 7, 8, and 9. Welcome back! We have a busy week. We will review multiplication and delve into division with partial products as well as learning the steps for long division. Learners will play factor games and learn the divisibility rules.
This week we reinforce multiplication practice and take our multiplication assessment. Learners can practice math facts at home either on Reflex Math or with flash cards.
Learners work to solve multiplication comparisons and work to understand multiplication word problems.
Multiplication Comparisions Samples Learners will be exploring prime and composite numbers this week.
