math 4 Updates
The fourth graders continue exploration of fractions as decimals. This includes understanding place value to the right of the decimal point. Students explore money to help them understand decimals. We will compare decimal numbers on the number line to aid with comprehension. You can help by creating decimal riddles at home and using place value vocabulary when you talk about decimals with your learner.

The third graders resume Smarter Balanced Assessments this week. We have planned some activities around Graphing when testing is not in session. Students are learning about bar graphs and pictographs. Most importantly, we are learning about the importance of titling and labeling our x and y axis. With pictographs it's important to analyze the information to make sure we choose the correct Key representation. For example, One smiley face might actually equal 2 students based on the size of the pictograph and they key. We are beginning to gather information based when we read and interpret graphs.
Here is some more graphing practice if you would like to work with your learner at home. Graphing Activity for home Students have been practicing manipulating fractions by multiplying fractions by whole numbers. They have been using repeated addition to explore this concept. This week we will begin graphing on a number line fractions with denominators of 10 and 100. This way was can compare fractions with similar denominators. We are also working toward understanding of converting fractions to decimals using long division, place value or visual models. This will prepare learners for multiplying and dividing by decimals.
