This week fourth graders will continue to research their topic for our class book about Vermicomposting. Please feel free to take a look at their google doc with them and make some suggestions for other questions they could answer in their section. Then we will move on to using our notes to begin writing. We will also begin looking at interdependence in ecosystems, with a focus first on pollination.
This week, learners continue working collaboratively on their vermicomposting project by putting together the chapters in our class book about vermicomposting. They’ll learn how to outline in google docs, research their section of the book and peer revise their work with other groups. Later in the week, we’ll review what we’ve learned about food webs by looking at owl pellets. Learners will get to dissect an owl pellet to learn what Barn Owls eat and how they fit into a food web.
We had a great visit from Angelina of StopWaste.org. Learners got to learn more about worm bins and find out various methods of harvesting the compost once the worms have done their magic This week 4th graders will continue to learn about worms and vermicomposting. We will be studying what is biodegradable and what is not. Then we’ll begin collecting food for our worms. We will begin to research and organize for our worm bin book project, dividing up topics in partners. Also, we will be graphing the growth of plants in our terrariums and then replanting them outdoors. Be ready with closed-toed shoes for our field trip to the Davis Street Transfer Station on THURSDAY!
