4th Grade Science Updates
This week we will be continuing our study of earthquake engineering. We will be writing and refining our building codes based on our test results using our shake tables.

Learners will continue their earthquake unit this week by building shake tables to mimic a 7.0 earthquake. They’ll then build structures to test on their shake tables and learn about different forces that affect buildings during the shaking of an earthquake. They’ll spend the unit creating their own building codes and figuring out how to build a structure that can counteract the forces felt during an earthquake!
We will be wrapping up our mini unit about tectonic plates this week. Learners will be designing a tool that can be used to prove that the Earth’s plates are still moving today. They will brainstorm, describe and diagram their ideas to show their classmates how their tool works.
This week we will be finishing up our gold mining erosion videos and learning about tectonic plates with Mosa Mack.
