The fourth graders will investigate “ How does food affect a population in its home range?” this week. Students will go to the schoolyard to simulate a population of deer. The deer will be in competition for resources. They will study how when the population of deer has an abundance of resources what the effect is. Then when there is an increase of population it leads to scarcity and competition.
Fourth graders will extend their learning on the 4Rs and composting by studying landfills. We’ll look at different landfills and see how they impact the earth. Learners will do a webquest on landfills. Later in the week, we’ll discuss ways to reduce landfill waste, specifically food waste and things that can be thrown in the green bin. We’ll also discuss our 1st trimester project in more detail.
4th graders will apply their understanding of decomposers that they learned about last week with food webs to the 4Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rot). They’ll learn why we do these things and how to live a more sustainable life!
