Fifth graders will complete their March Madness Packets this week. The final teams play beginning of April. Learners practice converting fractions to decimal and decimals to percents. Learners are looking for the pattern they see when converting. Also, learners explore the mean, median, mode and range of a set of data. They will use this information to complete their March Madness project this week. A Spring Break practice packet will be sent home for enrichment. This packet is optional and will not be graded.

Fifth graders continue working on their March Madness Project. This week we focus on game highlights, player statistics and most importantly conversion of fractions. The learners will focus on converting fractions to decimals and decimals to percents to determine the probability of teams winning the NCAA tournament. We are beginning to understand a percent as "part of 100" or a fraction over 100. We encourage learners to use long division and calculators to divide fractions in order to get a decimal.
Learners begin their March Madness project this week. This project is based on the NCAA college basketball tournament happening this month. Learners will complete a bracket predicting which teams will make it to the final round of the championship. They will also calculate the probability of making it to the final round by finding fractions, percentages, and decimals, as well as researching statistics on players and teams.
