math 5 Updates
This week learners complete Unit 5:Geometry. Learners will be assessed on the defining and calculating volume. They will also define attributes of quadrilaterals including parallelograms, trapezoids, rhombi, rectangles, and squares.
Learners will begin Unit 6: Adding and Subtracting Fractions. We will start by adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators. The learners will practice generating equivalent fractions to prepare for adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators next week. Essential vocabulary for Unit 6: denominator, numerator, equivalent fraction, fraction greater than 1

We continue Geometry this week by reviewing area and perimeter. Learners will discover three-dimensional figures and their attributes. They will learn about the concept of volume and formulas used to solve. Learners will create a "Geo-Coordinate" code name by drawing their initials in block letters on a coordinate grid. They will have to give the ordered pairs used to draw the letters, and determine which polygons can fit into the letters.
Fifth graders begin Unit 5-Geometry. We will start by reviewing two-dimensional figures and how they can be described and categorized based on attributes such as number of sides, number of angles, and congruent sides of angles. Learners will classfiy triangles based on sides and angles. Learners will classify quadrilaterals in a hierarchy of properties.
