4th grade humanities
This week, 4th grade learners will be beginning the research and note-taking for their California mission project! Some of the specific note-taking skills we will review and introduce are how to site information, how to take basic and detailed notes, how to judge the relevancy and trustworthiness of a piece of writing and how to organize the information to get from their sources.
First, learners will begin by researching the missions in general to get an idea about which mission in specific they would enjoy learning and writing about. Learners will then begin to research their specific mission; focusing on geography, natural resources, architecture, unique traits to their mission, relationships with local native populations and the daily life.

Writing: Learners have been working so hard on their research and informational writing! They are becoming experts in their topic of choice and have been combing through numerous resources to find answers to their driving questions. Learners' research has specifically focused on the history of their topic, a description/background, and three areas of focus they are interested in learning about within their general topic. Learners will continue working on (and hopefully finish!) their informational writing drafts in Google Docs this week. We will have mini-lessons on using linking words and writing a strong conclusion.
Social Studies: We will wrap up the California regions presentations. Learners will be assessed on their presentation and the organization of their information. |
