4th grade humanities
This week, learners will begin their informational research project. Learners will start by brainstorming topics they are curious about, and then narrow their topics to three options. Learners will briefly research these potential topics to explore possible online resources, and develop driving questions that would guide their research for each topic. Learners will then choose their topic, finalize their research driving question, and begin researching to answer their driving question. Learners will take notes, sort information into categories in a graphic organizer, and cite their sources.
We will continue our social studies unit on the Spanish colonization of California. Learners will watch two video clips about the establishment of the California missions. Learners will reflect on how different perspectives shape how history is told, and examine the differences between the perspectives of the Spanish missionaries and native peoples regarding the missions.
