This week, learners will wrap up their Gold Rush journals. Learners have been working for many weeks developing a realistic character and journey to and in California during the Gold Rush, and will work on integrating dialogue, references to a specific mining technique, and an interaction with someone from a different background into their journal entries. We will also continue reading By The Great Horn Spoon, and learners are welcome to utilize ideas and experiences from this historical fiction text as inspiration for their character's journal.
In social studies, will continue exploring the impact the Gold Rush had on the development of California's major industries and population, and highlight female leaders that played an important rule in California during this time. This week, learners will begin typing their Gold Rush journals onto Google slides. They should have been integrating vocabulary learned from seminars and reading By the Great Horn Spoon. Learners will continue reading this fantastic, fun filled book of gold rush adventure and continue to practice reading with expression, and strengthening their comprehension skills through discussion and exit tickets.
In addition, learners will learn when and how California became a state. We will discuss the effects on the US economy and industry as well as the influx of immigrants coming to this area for various reasons. |
