This week, the fourth graders will begin a poetry unit. We'll have an introduction to poetry and learners will watch a video clip, brainstorm times that they have read or written poetry, and read a poem and answer questions about its' style and what it makes them think about. They will then read examples of poems, which use sensory words. Learners will brainstorm examples of sensory words used in poetry and write their own sensory poem focusing on a theme or topic.
We will continue to read Esperanza Rising and have class discussions and strengthen comprehension skills.. This week, learners will begin typing their persuasive letter to the Governor of Mexico in the year 1821-1846. They have done a great job researching about their proposed land and thinking of a character that they would like to be. This creative project will be connected in Math and Science as well.
Learners will continue reading Esperanza Rising and strengthen comprehension skills, fluency, and learning vocabulary through context clues. |
