This week, the fifth graders will continue with their poetry unit. Learners will create a found poem, which is when learners each get a page of a book and circle their words with pencil first, then black out words. Topics will be given to learners if they struggle to think of a topic. The following day, we will have a circle discussion and learners will share why they chose their particular topic and why they chose those words to include. For the next poem, learners will be introduced to slam poetry. As a class, we will brainstorm a list of traits for each category:
What are your interests? Personality traits? Special people in your life Your role in your family What are your strengths? What is important for you to have in your life? What are your fears?
