Fifth graders will distinguish between a chemical reaction and a physical change by completing different mystery labs.

Fifth graders will finish their exploration of climate change, take their benchmark test, and learn about the periodic table.
Fifth graders will explore climate change while watching the film Inconvenient Truth . Science Lab will be broken into watching the film and discussion of the big issues relating to climate change. Inconvenient Truth by filmmaker Davis Guggenheim follows Al Gore on the lecture circuit, as the former presidential candidate campaigns to raise public awareness of the dangers of global warming and calls for immediate action to curb its destructive effects on the environment.
Fifth graders will explore “What is the relationship between salt-solution concentration and density?”
Fifth graders will answer the question “How can you determine the relative concentrations of three mystery solutions?”
Fifth graders will answer the question “How can you determine the relative concentrations of three mystery solutions?” and explore mass and volume.
The fifth grade students will answer the question ¨What is the difference between dissolving and melting? Students will observed salt dissolving and now they will observe matter melting so they can answer the focus question by developing models for these two different processes.
Fifth grade students will continue their investigation of extracts using glycerin as a solvent and edible items as the solute.
